1619 PROJECT DOCUSERIES     BEGINNING JAN. 26 ON HULU
Hosted by Hannah-Jones, ‚ÄúThe 1619 Project‚ÄĚ seeks to reframe the country‚Äôs history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very center of our national narrative. The episodes ‚ÄĒ ‚ÄúDemocracy,‚ÄĚ ‚ÄúRace,‚ÄĚ ‚ÄúMusic,‚ÄĚ ‚ÄúCapitalism,‚ÄĚ ‚ÄúFear‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúJustice‚ÄĚ ‚ÄĒ are adapted from essays of Hannah-Jones ‚ÄúThe 1619 Project: A New Origin Story‚ÄĚ and examine how the legacy of slavery shapes different aspects of contemporary American life.

REPUBLICAN¬†HOUSE MAJORITY:¬†MACCARTHY’S DEAL AND WHAT IT COST
After 15 votes and many concessions, McCarthy finally won the Speaker race. His concessions were to:
pass Freedom Caucus Rules package and pack the House Rules Committee‚ÄĒwhich governs how bills are presented to the floor
create a plan that balances the federal budget within 10 years that does not include raising taxes
promised not to allow Congress to pass a budget resolution that includes a debt limit increase without some major cuts
allow lawmakers 72 hours to review bills before they are put on the floor
pushed for more seats on powerful committees
allow a single rank-and-file lawmaker from either party will now be able to force a vote on ousting the House speaker
They have accomplished this in their first week:
written a bill that slashed IRS funding (CBO says this will increase the deficit by $114B over 10 years)
written a bill to condemn attacks on (only) ant-abortion groups and facilities
established a select committee to investigate Hunter Biden
established select committee for strategic competition with China (Bipartisan)
established a new subcommittee to investigate the¬†“weaponization of the Federal Government‚Äú
passed proposal for Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act (duplication of passed laws, but adds charges for doctors)
approved bill for Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) from China Act
The good news is that most of these will not pass the Senate and are mostly performative in nature, to satisfy the base.

GUNS, GUNS, GUNS
The more guns there are, the more gun deaths there are.

A 6 year old is accused of shooting someone at school. He isn’t thew first. The boy who allegedly shot a teacher in Newport News, Va., is not the only young child to wreak havoc at an elementary school with a loaded gun.Art Busch, the prosecutor, was still grappling with what had happened at Buell Elementary outside Flint, Mich., on Feb. 29, 2000. The boy had approached a girlin his class, then raised a gun and shot her in the chest. Kayla Rolland, who was also 6, died soon after.”
Honestly speaking, this is the logical consequence of the proliferation of guns in America. Conservatives and the NRA wanted more guns, so there you have it. Who will have the courage to make a stand to protect our children and our teachers, and each other? BTW, congratulations to Illinois on passing an assault rifle ban!!!

DON’T LET TRUMP BACK ON FB!!¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†Sign the petition¬†HERE.

“Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill sent a letter to Meta last month urging the company to keep Trump off its platforms, arguing Trump continues to attack American democracy by repeating lies about the 2020 election. Republicans, free speech advocates, and others argue maintaining the ban is an undue act of censorship and could put Trump at a disadvantage as a 2024 candidate.”
So, who will win here, what will be seen as more valuable, protecting democracy, or free speech?

ACTION ITEM: WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING?¬† ¬† BY FEB. 2
Ask your representatives in Congress to not attend the National Prayer Breakfast. Why?
Because¬†“its primary financial backer has been the notorious evangelist Franklin Graham, who views the breakfast as an¬†opportunity for business leaders¬†to ‚Äúbuy access‚ÄĚ to politicians.
“They find your reps for you and all you have to do is click the¬†button.
